Object description :

"Folk Art, Wooden Carved Mortar (raw Elm Bramble), 19th Cty"
Folk Art

Curious raw burl elm mortar ? (turned wood).

The knots and veins of this beautiful tortuous raw material and its honey-orange colour give this large mortar - or cup or other bowl - a strong aesthetic value.
The cup rests on a discreet heel

Unsuitable for soups and other liquids...  because the thickness of the wood is sometimes pierced !

Very nice shiny patina resulting from its repeated daily use for years.
19th century

Dimensions
21cm diameter and 10cm high (around 2cm thick)
