Pendulum Music Box Reuge Sainte-croix Switzerland

Beautiful pendulum music box from the famous Swiss brand Reuge in Sainte-Croix, from the second half of the 20th century. Cylinder movement with 60 blades and 12 tunes. Each new hour triggers a different tune of music each time it passes through twelve hours. A button allows you to listen to the tunes and adjust the tune for the next pass. The clock movement is quartz, the dial has Roman numerals and Breguet hands. A glass door protects the mechanism. The box is made of varnished rosewood decorated with rosewood fillets on each side and a gilded brass mascaron on the lid. Box in very good condition and working perfectly. Three tiny scratches on the lid. Dimensions 23x14x11.5 cm. The Reuge name is synonymous with unrivaled quality and craftsmanship. Charles Reuge founded the Reuge music boxes in 1865 in the small town of Sainte-Croix. He started by making small watches with tiny music box movements. Reuge's eldest son took over the business and opened a Reuge workshop where he continued to create musical movements. The company's factory is still located in St. Croix today and has consistently produced beautiful pieces with a full range of movements, from single 22 note to multi-note 144 note. They will soon abandon their 22 and 36 note tuners to focus solely on their much larger 50 and 72 note tuners. Reuge specifies that “it takes three months to create a Reuge music box and that mastery of thirty-four crafts is necessary to carry out the different stages of manufacturing.
