"Hand Carved Chest / Trunk, Renaissance Period, 17th Century France"
Very beautiful Renaissance period trunk, very nicely carved with palmettes and acanthus leaves in an architectural setting. Four Ionic columns decorated with plant motifs punctuate the facade. The central panel, transformed into a door at the end of the 19th century to make this chest a sideboard, is inlaid with blackened pieces of wood forming diamonds framed by a frieze. The keyhole, now purely decorative, is made of wrought iron France 17th century
