This work with its recognizable aesthetic is a striking piece that we owe to François-Théodore Legras (1839-1916), renowned master glassmaker of French Art Nouveau. It belongs to the Montjoye collection, known as one of the most accomplished, both for its undeniable plastic qualities and for the technical aspects implemented to create the different models.
Our vase is part of the so-called “Vert Impérial” series, also known as “Vert Nil”. This powerful color, as well as the perceptible work in the variations of the material, with this frosty rendering on which stands out a particularly realistic and detailed treatment of the flora which allows us to distinguish the oak leaves, their veins, the acorns, but also the interlacing of roots.
This stylized nature, but scrupulously observed, sums up in itself the fundamental aesthetic principles of Art Nouveau which strives to put Beauty at the heart of everyday life, even in the most everyday objects, in order to design a form of Total Art.
