"Set Of Four Asian Style Lacquer Panels. 1950s."
Set of four decorative panels, with their glossy brown lacquer backgrounds decorated with mother-of-pearl and their gilded wood frames in imitation of bamboo, decorated with matching compositions, a fine border with circular decoration framing each panel. A panel represents a piece of furniture – or console – in the purest Asian style with its irregular shapes, on which rests a traditional vase due to its shape and its base and in which foliage is placed and where there is two birds on their branches. A cup is also placed on this console. On the ground, we can see a vase garnished with foliage, resting on its base. The second panel represents a similar console on which rests a bowl in which we can see a pineapple and fruit. A pouf which acts as a harness is placed to the right of the panel, on which is placed a planter with its reeds. We can see two butterflies surrounding the foliage at the top of the composition. The bottom of the panel is decorated with peonies. The third panel represents the same console, this time with a planter in which reeds or bamboo are represented. Two large birds animate the scene. A cup is placed on the left, with its typically Asian openwork base. Bottom of the panel decorated with a planter loaded with large leaves. The fourth panel still represents the same console, with a planter in the center. An object and two butterflies animate the scene. A bowl loaded with fruit and a planter complete the set.
