Nkangi kiditu, literally translated as "Christ the protector" or "Christ bound", are not only Christian images but also objects of prestige for Kongo chiefs and kings, used during mabondo ya nkangi ceremonies and kept by the chief Mfumu. They also carried the power to ward off disease and evil spirits.
