Exceptional monoxyl ivory carved cup on heel, decorated in strong relief with a rich frieze organized around inteerlacing, curve and interlacing Renaissance design, with exotics fruits and plants symbolizing abundance.
2 cherubs and a couple are treated as busts while the lower part of their bodies are vegetated.
Bacchus, seated on a barrel, brandishes a standing cup of wine.
We can also see in this rich decoration a mouth profile of a dragon or fantastic animal.
Colors remaining, and very nice honey patina of the ivory, whose aging clearly contributes to the aesthetics of the bowl.
Very rare piece from Renaissance period.
Dimensions 12,5cm diameter and 10cm height
Perfect condition.
On the reverse you can see an orginal natural split in ivory and the central turning point of the work.
The cup, although made of a fragile and sometimes unstable raw material, is not split on its side. Large diameter and height required working on a fairly large diameter defense.
