Summer 1924 Paris Evening dress in black and cream embroidered taffeta by Jeanne Lanvin Haute Couture from the 1924 collection. Inspired by the Ballets Russes, this iconic dress with a round neckline, long pagoda sleeves and pleated skirt on the hips, was published in May 1924 in Vogue USA, photographed by Helen Lyons. Strips of champagne organza adorn the collar, the faux pockets and the wavy bottom of the skirt. The embroidery is machine chain stitch and the beads are white glass, the design forming concentric circles of several sizes, playing with black and white duotones. This graphic design is typical of the Art Deco period with a nod to the Surrealist movement or even Sonia Delaunay! No linings and famous Jeanne Lanvin label mentioning Jeanne Lanvin Paris Unis France 7 Summer 1924 and numbered 66780. Small gaps in the restored silk on the shoulders and missing pearls, particularly at the bustier. Average state of conservation. For collecting only, not portable.
