"Louis Colas : “the Basque Tomb 1923”"
Louis Colas: “The Basque Tomb”, folio covered with a tan half-basane posterior binding with raised spine and gilt title. Cover retained. Very fresh interior with light foxing at the beginning of the volume, scuffs on the covers, worn edges and corners. Pieces of paper stuck to the stamps of “The English Library, Saint-Jean de Luz”. Limited edition of 1070 numbered copies, this one being number 127 on Pont-de-Claix Atlas paper alone (drawings and photographs) without the text booklet. “Documents collected in the cemeteries and on the homes of Labourd, Basse-Navarre and Soule”, at La Grande Imprimerie Moderne, Biarritz 1923 (in fact 1924). One hundred years and still the absolute reference! For those interested in the subject, in particular discoidal steles, whose origins date back to the paleo-Christian era, although most date from the 16th to the 18th century, there are two references: the presentation on the ground floor from the Basque Museum of Bayonne and this essential book.
