"Berlin Music Box Late 19th Century"
German bone music box from the end of the 19th century, rectangular in shape; it rests on 4 small bronze ball feet. The lid is decorated with a large miniature painted in gouache surrounded by a chiseled bronze surround; a meeting of quality characters in the 18th century is represented: in a living room with majestic decor, 2 children, seated side by side on a large stool, play the piano in front of an attentive audience who applaud the "artists"; a few are seated, certainly the family, but most are standing. When opened, we discover a crimson red velvet interior with 2 compartments: the 1st is empty; it is intended to hold jewelry or other small precious objects; the second contains the mechanism. Under the box a controller allows you to rewind the music which offers several tunes. The miniature is signed lower right: and dated Berlin 18-- - (the rest of the numbers are hidden by the bronze surround) This beautiful music box is in good condition and the mechanism works well.
