"Marshmallow Sofa, Geroge Nelson, Italy, Circa 1980"
An icon of post-war design, the Marshmallow sofa represents an optimistic and heroic moment in American history. This unique sofa has a very recognizable design with 18 round, separate cushions that are held together by a chrome and black metal frame. The cushions are upholstered in blue and black faux leather. Marshmallow is made by an Italian artisanal laboratory, it is considered the most emblematic of all modernist sofas. Designed by George Nelson and Irving Harper, no more than a few hundred Marshmallow Sofas were produced between 1956 and 1963, although this retro sofa from the 1950s was reintroduced to the market by Herman Miller thirty-four years later (1999).
