- Excellent condition, almost new, superb carving
- Pair of double salt shakers formed of an oval tray with an interlacing border on four claw feet and palmette attachments, carrying a central hold in the shape of a winged putto with crown of flowers, two antique urns with palmette borders and water leaves, the inside of the salt cellars in silver-gilt
.
- It is interesting to note that the arrangement of the friezes of the egg warmer from the David-Weill collection (FD p.44, n°67) are identical to this pair of salt cellars, the feet are also very similar.
- Hallmarks: master goldsmith: JNB with a pestle for Jean-Nicolas Boulanger, master goldsmith at Paris from 1783 to 1819 [Dict, n°2031, Nocq T.I p.167]; Title: vertical octagon, an old man's head turned to the right and the number 1 at the bottom left, for the 1st title of 950 thousandths, Paris, 1819-1838; Guarantee: Head of a woman turned to the left, medium guarantee, Paris, 1819-1838.
- Jean-Nicolas Boulanger: goldsmith from the end of the 18th century, he is best known for his works produced under the Empire and the Restoration periods, the quality of his works has nothing to envy of those of Odiot and Biennais. He crossed out his hallmark in 1819, the workshop being taken over by his son FA Boulanger. From its Louis XVI production, a pair of toilet candlesticks is kept at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (Inv. 30011).
