"Charles Walch, The Rooster In Front Of The Village, Circa 1945"
Charles WALCH is a French painter, draftsman, and engraver who graduated from Decorative Arts in Paris in 1916. He set up his workshop in this city throughout his life. His style is very personal, particularly joyful and makes the colors sing with many fantasies. He became friend with painters like Rouault, Grommaire, Desnoyer, Bazaine and Lehmann. At the end of the war, he created a flamboyant rooster which served as a poster for the Salon d'Automne of 1945. Our gouache on paper is one of the few known examples of this emblematic theme of roosters.
