Measuring 46cm x 33cm, 8P format, excluding frame, 59cm x 47cm in total.
Representing a basket of fruit and a cup on an entablature

Henri Clément Serveau, known as Clément-Serveau (1886-1972), French painter, draftsman, engraver and illustrator. Born in Paris, he successively took courses at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs then at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris from 1904 to 1914. He began in 1905 at the Salon des Indépendants and then participated in the Salons des Artistes French, at the Salons d'Automne and the Salons des Tuileries. Artistic director of Ferenczi editions from 1919, he illustrated, using the woodcut technique, 78 works of the Modern Illustrated Book. Colette was its literary director for several years. He also participates in around thirty other works. He received a medal of honor in 1920, bronze in 1921, silver in 1926 and finally gold in 1929. Thanks to his master Luc-Olivier Merson, he created models of bank notes. He designed or engraved forty-two French or foreign postage stamps from 1956 to 1970. After a trip to Greece in 1934, he devoted himself to post-cubism. He was named Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1936. He also created a large number of frescoes, including one measuring six by three meters at the Meaux high school where he was a student. He directed the School of Frescoes at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, decorated the tourism pavilion at the Universal Exhibition of 1937. He participated in numerous exhibitions of French art in Sweden, England, the United States, Canada, etc... where each time he creates and sells works. In 1948, he exhibited at the Barreiro Gallery. He died in Paris on July 8, 1972, he is buried in the Bourbonne-les-Bains cemetery where he owned a house on rue Vellonne. A room in the local museum is dedicated to him. Artist listed in Bénézit.
