Oil on painting by Edmond DELPHAUT representing a view of the canal from NANTES to BREST (at GUILLAC). Signed lower left: Edmond DELPHAUT – 50 and located on the back “canal from Nantes to Brest – at Guillac” Edmond DELPHAUT (1891-1957) is an artist (painter and sculptor) who created several sculptures in memory of the soldiers of the Great War at the request of French and German communities. He notably created a memorial in Königsbrück in Germany in memory of Serbian prisoners which was the first of his important works. He participated, in fact, in the great war 1914-1918 where he was taken prisoner and detained in the Königsbrück camp and rubbed shoulders with prisoners of different nationalities including Serbs. Winner of the French Artists' Salon in 1933 (PARIS).
