“Nude in the drape, Venus in the bath”
Marble, signed and dated 1913 on the terrace Ht. 88cm (small chip at the base)
- €2,900 -
In the tradition of representations of bathers and Venus in the bath, Fernand David offers us, while respecting the codes of the subject, a carnally more modern image of the female body, without necessarily abandon figurative accuracy.
This marble, dated 1913, announces a more sculptural treatment of femininity, which we will find after the war under the chisels of Aristide Maillol, Gaston Contesse or even Charles Despiau
Student of Barrias, Jules Cavelier and Léon Fagel at the Paris School of Fine Arts, Fernand David exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français from 1898 to 1914, where he obtained an Honorable Mention in 1899, a 3rd class medal in 1901 and a travel grant in 1904.
