"Jean Gerbino Vallauris, Large Vase In Mosaic Earth, Early 20th Century"
Large mosaic earthenware vase by Jean Gerbino in Vallauris. Very good state. Early 20th century period. Delivery 18 euros in France, 35 euros in the EU and 100 euros rest of the world. Jean Gerbino (1876 - 1966) was born in Sicily and came to work in France with the Massiers (already in Vallauris) and it was in Vallauris that he developed a unique process that we find on this vase: that of mosaic earth which even won him a grand prize at the famous Lépine Competition in 1931! This specific process called "Gerbino" fuses mosaic and neriage techniques. The clays are colored with oxides in the mass before being assembled flat to form patterns. The plates are then placed in molds, then, after a particularly slow drying process, the object will be fired twice.
