Portrait of a woman in hunting attire in front of a vine
H. 80 cm; L. 53 cm
Oil on canvas
Signed and dated lower right - 1932
Painter of portraits and animated scenes of characters, Poussard's work can be compared to the entire Bordeaux school of painting of the 1920s/40s, where the Roganeaus , Begaud, Dupas excelled in portraits of strength in wonderful colors and materials.
Our portrait is obviously in this vein, taken in the fall of 1932. Poussard stands in front of his model who is posing in front of the wall of a house on which a Virginia creeper sees its leaves turn red. The extraordinary light playing with shadows and flashes. Our rider, in hunting attire, wears the required little tricorn, a beautiful gold pin to hold the Lavallière placed under her guest outfit. The shadow of the tricorn descending to mid-cheek and placing a blue eye in the darkness is a wonderful piece of painting.
Original frame repainted.
