Object description :

"Louis XV Style Cane Planter From The Napoleon III Period. Nineteenth Century."
Singular Louis XV-transition style planter from the Napoleon III period. The softly curved feet, a spacer enclosing the four feet. Palmettes, garlands, scrolls and painted canework. The whole thing is covered with gold paint. The two zinc tanks are deep and in relatively "good condition" despite some tinkering. The panels of the central body are in canework. Object with interesting shapes and dimensions and very decorative. Under Napoleon III, planters were very fashionable in the 1860s. They take place in the stairwells or in the winter gardens of resorts and mansions that the industrial bourgeoisie has built. In the 18th century, they were often found in dining rooms. The paint which covers the object is more recent. It dates from the first half of the 20th century. Perhaps this “pretty” piece of furniture deserves a new patina in a pastel color (trianon gray or celadon green.) which would give it back its splendor. A very “Napoleon III” spirit and art of living that must be perpetuated. Each tank measures 29 cm wide and 32 cm high
