"Elegant Blackened Parisian Chest Of Drawers From The Louis XIV Period. End Of The 17th Century. "
So-called "Parisian" chest of drawers in walnut from the Louis XIV period and dating from the end of the 17th century. Finding its origins either from "chest" furniture or from "office" furniture, the chest of drawers was the great novelty during the reign of Louis XIV. The “table as a desk” or the “desk as a chest of drawers” then becomes…the “chest of drawers”. Ours is “straight” in shape. The tray, in one piece, is decorated with a corbin beak. It opens with three rows of four drawers, two of which are small on the upper level. The wood is blackened but reveals patinas with warm tones and "chestnut" color. The drawers of our chest of drawers are decorated with chapel moldings, a sort of bell-shaped pattern framing each of the lateral sides of the drawers. The upper row is generally divided into three parts, namely, two independent side drawers and a central part with a circular or quatrefoil molding. Original locks and bronzes. The uprights of the Parisian chest of drawers are straight and rounded in profile. The vertical feet are in their extension. It is an elegant and refined piece of bedroom furniture. Pleasant proportions. small drawers 38 cm wide by 17 cm high middle and bottom drawers 90 cm wide by 18 cm high.
