"Sculpture - Renaissance Statue Virgin And Child In Majesty In Polychrome Stone - 15th France"
Statue - Virgin and Child in majesty in polychrome limestone, Renaissance period (15th-16th centuries) – France

This remarkable limestone sculpture, dating from the French Renaissance (15th century),
Presents the Virgin Mary seated in majesty, in a solemn posture. The piece retains residual traces of polychromy, testifying to its authenticity and its age.

The Virgin is represented in majesty dressed in a long, elegantly draped dress, decorated with beaked pleats, characteristic of the Renaissance style. Her trapeze neckline frames a serene face, slightly inclined towards the Child Jesus whom she holds affectionately on her knees.
She wears a crown decorated with a lily flowered border (see photos) the top of which has been trimmed and lost, probably following the revolutionary events.

The Child Jesus, animated by a slight movement forward, seems to want to interact with the faithful,
(more realistic scene representative of the style of this period and cutting with previous styles and bringing together symbolism, anatomy and classical continuity).

Both hold a sphere, symbolizing the world, in a gesture of sharing and divine protection. This scene reflects the intimate relationship between the Virgin and her Son, a central theme in Western religious art.

This statue embodies both the majesty and maternal tenderness of Mary, while foreshadowing the more refined and mannerist traits of the Renaissance.

Visible traces of wear (notably at the level of the missing arm of the Child Jesus and some chips behind, right side of the sculpture),
In no way alter the artistic quality of the work. On the contrary, they underline its rich history marked by wars, peasant revolts, as well as revolutionary suppressions.

Perfect for an interior design:

This moving piece is not only a work of great historical and religious importance, but it also constitutes a decorative element of choice for an elegant interior.

Its timeless beauty, accompanied by subtle traces of polychromy,
Will bring a touch of serenity and spirituality to your living space. Ideal for a library, an entryway or as a centerpiece in a room with a classic or traditional design,

This statue will bring an atmosphere of refinement and spiritual depth. Its size and delicate work make it a perfect decorative accent for a sophisticated interior, combining art, history and a sense of the sacred.
