"Ritual Cong In Jade, In “liangzhu” Style, 20th Century"
Cong in jade in the style of those found at the Liangzhu site. The name of this site also refers to the Chinese civilization of the same name, which flourished over 4,000 years ago. The pillars were found in tombs and ritual sites. This reflects their importance in the beliefs and religious practices of the period. They were used to accompany the deceased on their migration to the world of the ancestors.
In China, these pillars symbolize the Earth. They are generally made of jade. This very hard stone was cut into pure geometrical shapes, possibly with harmoniously distributed similar motifs, and all perfectly polished. This work could only be done by rubbing, abrasion and polishing, given the tools available at the time.
