Talwinski (1907-1983)
Born in 1907 in Warsaw, he prepared his diploma from the Technical and Electricity School. He participated in the war in Poland then in the Warsaw Resistance in 1944. Deported to Germany, then freed by the Americans, Igor Talwinski arrived in France in 1945 and worked as a technician. A taste for painting developed in him and he attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Naturalized French in 1955, he devoted himself fully to his art from 1959. A figurative painter, Talwinski exhibits every year at the French Artists of which he is a member. He obtained the honorable mention in 1953, and also participated in the Winter Salon and the Salon de l'école française. Although he deals with other subjects such as still lifes, flowers and landscapes, his art mainly focuses on the evocation of the female body, its grace and sensuality. Relying on a solid drawing, Talwinski gently brushes the faces and bodies of his models which he accentuates with lively knife strokes sculpting the material and animating the luminous backgrounds of his compositions. He is also an excellent portraitist. From the first works, created when he lived in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, a proximity to the Paris school appears: work in paste, muted tones. Then his execution becomes bolder and the light invades his compositions, gently modeling the bodies. Knife work takes up more and more space to produce incisive and vibrant works towards the end of his life. A painter inspired by the piquant charm of the 18th century French school, Igor Talwinski perfected his technical mastery for the pleasure of representing one of the universal motifs of art: woman.
