"Diana The Huntress - Bronze After Jean-antoine Houdon"
The original of Diane Chasseresse, made in bronze by the neoclassical sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) in 1790, is in the Louvre. A first model of the goddess in plaster dates from 1776 and a creation in marble from 1780. The classic character of the sculpture is undeniable: its nudity, the regularity of its idealized features, its impassivity and the purity of the lines. But its elongated body, its whirling attitude and the contact with a single foot with the base recall Giambologna's Mercury (16th century) and are similar to the characteristics of mannerism. Our bronze is finely sculpted, its patina is impeccable and it is in very good condition. Note: The arrow on his right hand is slightly twisted. Signature on the bronze base: "Houdon"
