Beautiful luminous work by the Marseille painter Marius Barthalot which represents a shepherd and his flock on the heights of Lecques.
Below you can see the bay of Lecques with the urban outline of La Madrague as well as Pointe Grenier in Saint-Cyr sur Mer in the background.
The painter used a palette of bright colors and played on contrasts.
A student of Magaud in Marseille, then of Cabanel, Bonnat and Saint-Pierre in Paris, Marius Barthalot exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français from 1885 to 1934, where he won numerous awards for his luminous canvases.
The artist creates views of Marseille, Avignon, Martigues and Lecques.
Dimensions: 60 x 81 cm seen without frame and 82 x 103 cm with its original Montparnasse frame.
