Medieval style enamelled and gilt copper eucharistic dove, 19th century
Eucharistic dove, or peristerium, was used in medieval churches to keep consecrated hosts. It was hung in the middle of the ciborium, over the altar.
Set on a circular base, this eucharistic dove shows a coloured enamels decoration and the two wings are articulated. A flap in the back opens to receive hosts.
Very good condition.
