"Secret Snuff Box, Two Erotic Miniatures, 19th Century"
Rectangular snuff bottle with double bottom in silver, mother-of-pearl and miniature on ivory. The box is decorated with two mother-of-pearl or burgau plaques finely engraved with motifs of fruits, flowers and birds. The frame is engraved with geometric patterns. The box has two hinges opening onto two compartments. In one of the compartments, on the reverse of the lid is set a miniature on ivory representing a faun approaching a young woman. The bottom of this compartment has burgau marquetry. In the other compartment, the reverse of the lid shows a couple embracing in a bucolic landscape and surprised by a putti. The miniatures are protected by glass. Work from the second part of the 19th century.
Silver hallmark: weevil for imported works.
Small chip in the interior glass which protects the miniature.
