"18th Century Gold And Tortoiseshell Box "
Large round box in finely chiseled gold of several tones. The lid of the box is decorated with a central circular medallion representing a dove, symbol of Venus, flying over a flowered basket and a quiver on an amati gold background. The medallion is framed by a frieze of foliage and concentric streaks. The edge of the lid is decorated with a geometric frieze with alternating patterns. This same decoration is found on the frame and on the bottom of the box. The interior is entirely lined with tortoiseshell. This is a candy dish whose use was very widespread in the 18th century.
Gold: 14 carat.
Work from the second part of the 18th century.
