"E. Ronget (1893-1980), Still Life With Vase And Glass, Gouache And Oil On Paper, Signed"
Still life with vase by Elisabeth RONGET, French painter of German origin influenced by the cubism of André Lhote. Liesbeth Bohm was one of the two daughters of judge Gehheimer JustiratSalomon Bohm from Graudenz (Poland) and Margarete Spanier (1876-1937) from Bernburg (Saxony). She grew up and went to school mainly in Hanover. She was a student of L. Vierthaler at the School of Visual Arts (Kunstgewerbe- und Handwerkerschule Hannover) and a student in Munich until 1926. "The artistic temperament of young Liesbeth Bohm was supported by her parents who sent her to Vienna where she received classical training at the Academy of Fine Arts. Continuing her university studies in Berlin, Elisabeth Bohm became involved with the painters of the Dere Blau movement. Reiter joined the Novembergruppe from 1926 and attended the Bauhaus in Dessau. Her painting is modern, slightly cubist, and the palette used is very harmonious and soft. In Paris she meets the merchant Georges Emile Ronget from Pantin with whom she will marry on October 23, 1934 at the town hall of the 17th arrondissement of Paris (deed number: 1858) In 1941 she established herself in Provence. We found Georges Ronget engaged in Free France in London from July 1940. After the Second World War, however, she returned to Parisian salons. In addition to nudes, still lifes and portraits like those of the patron Camille Renault or the actress Adrienne Servantie, his work consists of compositions on themes entitled The Musketeers, The Belle Epoque, The Bird's Nightmare, The Last Drop of Pure Water. CRITICAL RECEPTION “She never exhibits, she never sells, she never tries to discover his painting. And yet, what talent! Part of Expressionism, it will slowly evolve towards a cubism without dryness or austerity. Later, it will move towards the fringes of abstraction, with barely sketched characters. The straight lines are then replaced by curves and the colors soften. Ronget's paintings become shades of blue, white, yellow, gray..." - Françoise de Perthuis "If André Lhote's advice leads him to a strict and solid linear order, to a certain stylization of the figures, to a partitioning of the canvas, with geometric shapes, the choice of bright and sometimes strident colors, the dramatic distortions, the shattering of the bodies betray his origins and reveal to us his restless soul. Little by little, the often broken and angular lines of Élisabeth Ronget's compositions give way to curves. The elegance, precision and finesse of this new writing reveal to us the resources of a palette refined by years, trials and research, the power of evocation, the faith and sometimes the fantasy of this secret, Slavic artist. and mystical." - Claude Robert "Cubism in its colorful and decorative aspect. This Polish artist who adopted French nationality settled in Paris after having stayed in Berlin for several years: she suffered the all-powerful influence of André Lhote." - Gérald Schur PUBLIC COLLECTIONS The Hague, Fond National d' Contemporary Art Artothèque de Puteaux PRIVATE COLLECTIONS, France, Italy, Switzerland...1893-1980)
