Wooden sculpture representing Shakyamuni Buddha. His hands are arranged in Dhyana Mudra or gesture of meditation, symbolizing the triumph of enlightenment over the world of illusion. This gesture refers to the Buddha's meditation under the sacred Bodhi tree. The sculpture is made of polychrome wood, lacquered and gilded with tortoiseshell. The Buddha is seated on a pedestal decorated with a frieze of lotus leaves.
