"Oil On Canvas Intimate Spirit Signed "paul Pouchol". 1st Half Of The 20th Century."
Singular and interesting oil on canvas in its original frame from the first half of the 20th century and signed Paul Pouchol. The artist here represents the street of a village in France, certainly shortly before the Second World War. In perspective, the church tower topped with the cross. Further down, the facades of traditional houses with sober colors and a somewhat ghostly appearance. Two women stand out on the left of the canvas. These are the only characters on the canvas. Their graceful posture and their appearance suggest that they belong to the lower middle class and not to the peasant world. A captivating painting which is reminiscent of the last moments of the sweetness of life in the French and European countryside before the geopolitical cataclysm illustrated around the same time by Picasso and his Guernica (1937)... the frame is d 'era . It is made of raw wood, with a gilded edge at the ends. The canvas alone measures 45 cm wide by 54 cm high. Paul Pouchol painted figures, landscapes and numerous still lifes. In his oils, he expresses himself above all in a traditional, intimate spirit. He is best known for his work as a ceramist. He was the initiator of young talents including Jouve and Pol Chambost. A student of the Ecole Boulle and distinguished by the Blumenthal Prize in 1930, he set up, from 1942, a ceramic workshop/ He then produced enameled pottery, decorated with figures, while collaborating with the Compagnie des Arts Français, then directed by Jacques Adnet, great discoverer of all talents between 1935 and 1955. Many of his works are listed and go to the auction room... This is a beautiful painting. Very decorative, even in an old interior. Very good condition at the front and back (parquet floor). Signature of the painter at the bottom right of the canvas.
