"Important Property Cylinder Desk In Walnut, Directoire Period – Early 19th Century"
This important all-sided cylinder desk in solid and veneered walnut is available in three parts. The lower part has four drawers. Namely, a central one as well as two on the left and a deep one on the right, simulating two facades with internal lockers and reserve with flap and lock. All these facades are in burr walnut veneer arranged in a developed pattern. Each of these drawers has a working authentic lock with inset entry and key. The feet are sheathed and end in brass shoes. The desk sides, made of walnut burls, each offer a shelf with a brass button, dark with redone leather, pine color, with cold and gold vignettes. The intermediate part gives way to a cylinder, in developed veneer with central joint, fitted with two shaped bronze handles, with original horizontal lock, entrance and key. The interior features a sliding framed shelf with back leather with vignettes and patterns. Six drawers, including three dummy ones adjoining this shelf, present below three identical niches, are also inherent to this desk. These internal drawers are separated by four columns, two of which conceal secret cavities. Finally, the upper part which includes a row of three drawers, of similar composition, is topped with Belgian granite marble in perfect condition. Note that the majority of cylinder desks are offered in mahogany version but very rarely in burr walnut.
