Adolf Jöhnssen (1871-1950), a German artist from Rostock, began his career as a lithographer at the Tiedemann Lithographic Institute, then worked under Friedrich Schlie at the Schwerin Museum. He then studied at the Nuremberg School of Applied Arts, before becoming a pupil of Karl Raupp at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts from 1897 to 1899. In addition to his activities as a painter and illustrator, he was also a musician, playing the lute in the Nuremberg Art Association.
