Manjushri Bodhisattva, the oldest and most important in Mahāyāna literature, Nepal late 19th/early 20th century. He is depicted brandishing a flaming sword in his right hand, indicating the realization of transcendent wisdom that eliminates ignorance and duality. His right hand represented in vitarka mudra, a gesture of argument. Provenance: Estate of the collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau. All other pieces of Himalayan or South-East Asian art to come come from the same origin, they remained stored sometimes for more than 50 years in its reserves.
