A 17th century oil on panel, a refined, rare and sensitive portrait of Maria Anna, Infanta of Spain, by an artist from the circle of Bartolome Gonzales. Maria Anne of Spain (1606 – 1646) Infanta Maria Anne of Spain was born at the Escorial Palace, near Madrid, on August 18, 1606, as the fourth child and third (but second survivor) daughter of King Philip III of Spain and his wife, Margaret of Austria, Archduchess of the Inner Austrian branch of the House of Habsburg. Of his seven siblings, only four survived childhood: Anna (later wife of King Louis XIII of France), Philip IV of Spain, Charles (died young in 1632), and Ferdinand (later infant cardinal and governor of the Spanish Netherlands). Maria Anna's parents were closely related; his father was his mother's first cousin once removed, and they were related through several lineages. Infanta of Spain, daughter of King Philip III. She was considered a possible bride for Charles, Prince of Wales (the future King Charles I), known as the "Spanish Match". In 1623, Charles accompanied by Buckingham traveled to Madrid to negotiate terms. This arrangement, however, did not come to fruition due to religious differences. She eventually married King Ferdinand of Hungary and Bohemia (1608–1657), who was elected King of the Romans, making her Queen of Germany, Queen of Hungary, and Empress of the Holy Roman Empire. Bartolomé González (1564 - 1627) This Spanish painter was a student of Patricio Cajés in Valladolid and of Juan Pantoja de la Cruz, whom he succeeded as royal painter alongside Rodrigo de Villandrando, Pedro Antonio Vidal, Santiago Morán and Andrés . Lopez. After the court left his native Valladolid for Madrid, he became painter to the king, filling the position left by the death of Fabricio Castello in 1617.
