"Sewing Kit In Vermeil, Tahan, Rue De La Paix, In Paris"
Rare sewing kit from the famous Tahan house in Paris. Magnificent rosewood box with a superb lid inlaid with brass scrolls on a pink background and the CD monogram. Silk and velvet interior. It is complete with all these vermeil elements: scissors, needle case, thimble, awl and thread guide. They are engraved and decorated with a pretty pattern. Inscription “Tahan, rue de la Paix” at the closing level. Slight wear and tear on the box visible in the photos, but the whole remains in good condition. It measures 4,92 inches long and 2,52 inches at its widest. France, Paris around 1850.
Note: The Tahan house, cabinetmaker to Emperor Napoleon III, supplied the Court with furniture, boxes and necessities. Tahan was located on Rue de la Paix from 1849 to 1866, the house later moved to Boulevard desItalien, our kit was therefore manufactured between 1849 and 1866.
