"Beautiful Art Deco Ball Vase - Fains Glassworks (1864-1978)"
Very elegant Ball Vase from Verrerie Fains (1864-1978) ART DECO year 1930, signed under the base. Black and Platinum Opaline Glass. History ; In 1864 Auguste SCHMID, whose family was originally from the Black Forest, bought an old brewery in Fains-les-Sources. He joined forces with Germain Emile Du HOUX, a glassmaker from Hennezel (Vosges), to create a glassworks that would make jam jars and Champagne bottles. It will be the Verrerie A.Schmid et Du Houx, located near the Ornain river at 1 rue Saint-Christophe. The Fains glassworks, as it was commonly called, was purchased in 1911 by the company Vve G. Marquot et Fils, to become Verreries Marquot. Then, from 1970, it became part of the Compagnie Française du Cristal (CFC), after the merger with the crystal factories of Bayel, Vanne-le-Châtel, Valléerysthal and Portieux. Unfortunately, like many others, the Fains glassworks ceased its activities in 1978.
