Loyalty desk clock Cast and gilded bronze with ormulu Paris, late 18th century Directoire period H. 22; 12; 7.5 cm Charming desk or bedside clock made of gold-plated bronze. It rests on four small spinning top legs, the rectangular base, the straight body decorated with three applied elements depicting palmettes and laurel leaves. The whole is topped by a dog, symbol of loyalty. The dial is enamelled with Roman numerals and signed by Adam Repond, Bréguet type hands Adam Repond watchmaker active in Paris at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the following century. We know of Louis XVI clocks of good quality, various models of "Diane the Huntress" or "reader" clocks.
