it is probably a marriage but at least from the 19th century.
in fact it is rare to come across an Italian chest whose facade is lined with a painted canvas from the same period, especially since the keyhole is completely hollowed out in the canvas.
It is therefore a late but elegant and rather successful marriage.
the Italian chest is made of walnut and has retained its wrought iron handles on the sides.
three of its feet are original and one of them at the bottom left on the facade has been redone identically. the backs are original in fir.
molded and carved feet typical of northern Italy in the 17th century.
it has moldings on the facade forming a balanced frame for the canvas, with vertical panels with flat strips on each side.
the trunk was passed through xylophene in the workshop as a preventive measure.
a very beautiful 17th century chest decorated with a 17th century canvas, probably married in the 19th century.
The canvas is superb and represents a peasant scene in the style of Jacopo Bassano, with numerous characters in a large landscape of plowing in the fields, at the foot of a village and mountains in the distance.
strangely everything is very coherent and very decorative.
a chest that is not ordinary.
