Figurine And Grapes, Head Raised By René Lalique flag

Object description :

"Figurine And Grapes, Head Raised By René Lalique"
Figurine and grape, head raised left by René Lalique (1860-1945), pressed-molded white glass panel.

Original model created for the Compagnie des Wagons-lits for the "Côte d'Azur Pullman Express" in 1929.

A project begun in 1924 by the Compagnie Internationale des Waglons-lits, these first all-metal luxury carriages were conceptualized by René Prou and architect Nelson, who left it to Lalique to design and conceive the glass decorative elements that would fit in with their woodwork plans.

This luxury train remained in operation for almost ten years, and is an emblem of Art Deco, a period when art and travel merged.
