Beautiful miniature signed Cless. F (F for fecit). Very fine work by Jean Henri CLESS (1774-1812), depicting a portrait of a man of quality with a white jabot. The miniature is framed in fine gold and protected by glass.
Jean Henri Cless was an Alsatian painter who settled in Paris, where he became famous for his talents as a portraitist and miniaturist. Cless was one of Jacques Louis David's best pupils and began to be active around 1800, exhibiting in Paris at the Salons from 1804 to 1808.
