Quality miniature of a man, early 19th century, First Empire, signed Jean Henri CLESS

Beautiful miniature signed Cless. F (F for fecit). Very fine work by Jean Henri CLESS (1774-1812), depicting a portrait of a man of quality with a white jabot. The miniature is framed in fine gold and protected by glass.

^{Jean Henri Cless was an Alsatian painter who settled in Paris, where he became famous for his talents as a portraitist and miniaturist. Cless was one of Jacques Louis David's best pupils and began to be active around 1800, exhibiting in Paris at the Salons from 1804 to 1808.}
