"Satsuma: Japanese Vase With Romantic Decors."
Elegant Satsuma earthenware vase, Japan, Meiji period, 19th century early 20th century. Slightly hexagonal in shape, it is decorated on the 4 sides of the body: 2 large cartridges represent 2 romantic scenes, which respond to each other, of dignitaries outdoors in gardens with trees and flowers, 2 small cartridges enriched with colorful birds with long tails like bearers of loving messages. Relief decorations of polychrome and gold enamels on a cream background enhance delicate, stylized naturalist motifs. A small chip on the collar. Very good state. Signature/brand under the heel.
