I had first assumed an Italian origin, because of the elegant shape which is entirely in the spirit of the stilettos of this country, but the scabbard and its suspension system lead me to conclude that it is of Argentinian, Uruguayan, or south Brazil origin, so from the "rio de la Plata" area.
The inlay of a part in silver or alpaca with a small vegetable decoration in the blade confirms to us that this attribution.
It is therefore clearly a dagger called "faca de ponta", worn by the gauchos from the extreme south of Brazil.
BLADE: after a 3.7 cm ricasso, it is double-edged, very pointed, and has a diamond-shaped section with rounded edges. At the base of the blade, inlay, a decoration in white metal (silver or alpaca), which presents engravings of plant motifs, partly erased.
Length of the blade = 19.3 cm width at the ricasso 2.2 cm, thickness at the ricasso = 6 mm
HILT : It starts with a ball which is part of the blade, then presents an 8-faceted part covered with white metal (silver or alpaca) and continues with a so-called "lantern" part, with 16 bars on a dark wood background, and finally ends with a complex pommel with several levels
SCABBARD : it is made of leather sewn with a small plant decoration, and a retaining tab which allows to lock the weapon on the belt.
This styletto is of good quality, it is a very unusual model, entirely in its original condition, never restored.
