The two statues were found, together with twelve others, inside a votive well of an open-air Etruscan sanctuary, located in the Bolognese Apennines, between the Reno and Setta valleys. The size and refined execution of the statuettes, with great attention to detail in their elegant clothing, indicate that they must have constituted offerings of a certain value. From a stylistic point of view, the reference to Greek statuary models is very evident, with particular reference to the kouroi and korai of Archaism. However, some details, such as the rendering of the hair and powerful musculature, together with the overall construction of the figures, show that the statues are the work of an Etruscan craftsman, active in a workshop in northern Etruria.
