The box is round, in brown tortoiseshell. It is rimmed in gold at the opening, on the lid and the base.
A gold pellet also adorns the center of the lid.
The box comes with a protective case in green shagreen, covered in pink velvet inside. This shagreen case is probably older than the box, from the 18th century, but the latter fits perfectly.
The frame of the box is hallmarked:
. Rooster hallmark 3rd grade used for 750/°° gold in Paris between 1798 and 1809
. Average guaranteed hallmark for gold at the same period
There is an old collector's label in the bottom of the box and under the shagreen case.
A blue silk ribbon allows the box to be removed from its case.
Magnificent box, very sober and very elegant, made from precious materials at the turn of the 19th century, protected in a magnificent shagreen case.
