Bronze plaquette, Saint John the Baptist, 17th century
This plaquette depicts Saint John the Baptist as a three-quarter lenght bust facing slightly left. Wearing his camel skin melota, he hold a sheep on a book, as well as a banner whose pole is made of a cross. Arount top edges: "NON SUREXIT MAIOR", from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew (ch.11, v.11): "non surrexit inter natos mulierum maior Iohanne Baptista" (Among those born of women there has been none greater than John the Baptist).
Very good condition, a suspension loop on the top.
