The pied of the beer mug is set in a pewter ring.
Faience beer steins were produced in the Netherlands from the mid-17th century onwards. The shape was taken from pewter specimens. The production of the beer mug was particularly extensive in the 17th century. Production seems to have ended in the second quarter of the 18th century: almost no beer steins are known after that period.
