Pair of candlesticks or torches
Silvered bronze, three parts
Paris, last third of the 18th century
Dimensions : H. 16,5 (cm.)
A pair of candlesticks or torches known as "de poing" or "de toilette" resting on a quadrangular base, the shaft in the form of a column with filleted flutes. Smooth bobèches.
This format has many names. Their compact size meant that they could be moved around at night. They were therefore often placed on small pieces of furniture such as dressing tables or bedside tables. But they could also be used for decorative purposes, for example as decoration for a writing desk.
Condition report: very slight wear to the re-silvering, one bobèche associated.
