"“medici” Crater In Cast Iron. 19th Century."
Cast iron vase on square foot. Antique style bell krater. It is inspired by the famous and imposing ancient krater referenced in the catalog of the Medici family (Patricians of Florence and reigning over the Duchy of Tuscany in the 16th century) and exhibited at the Uffizi Gallery. The handles of the chalice krater or the Attic scroll krater (ancient Greek world) have disappeared. They gave way to a vase in the shape of an inverted bell. Our vase has a top edge that flares into a molded rim. Placed on a square base and a gadrooned foot, it has a smooth and unstoried surface like its famous eponym.
