A French 19th Century Bronze Sculpture Of Satan In The Manner Of Jean-jacques Feuchère
Artist: Dans Le Goût De Jean-jacques Feuchère
19th century bronze devil in the style of Jean-Jacques Feuchère.
The devil with his tongue stuck out and his wings outstretched, standing with his left paw on the head and shell of a turtle, on a rectangular black marble base.
Nice carving detail in the devil's visible spine, as well as his small horns and the pronounced cartilage in the wings.
Satanic subjects were popular among Romantic artists of the 1830s, who felt inspired by literary works such as Dante's "Inferno" (1303-1321), Milton's "Paradise Lost" (1667), and "Faust" by Goethe (1808).
